Save Environment By Using Information Technology

Save Environment By Using Information Technology

There are many ways in which information technology is helping us to save the environment:

  1. Going Digital
  2. Environmental Monitoring
  3. Renewable Energy
  4. Adopting a Smarter Lifestyle

Going Digital

Nowadays businesses and other people are using less paper then in years past, it’s all due to computers, smartphones and cloud storage.

Mostly the businesses are sending newsletters, mail and all the other communication over the internet rather than sending it manually which is a quite easy process and it saves time and paper as well. The files and records are stored in the cloud rather than storing it in the cabinets of the office. Storing the data in the cloud has many benefits. It’s easy to access from any part of the globe.

Traditionally people were taking notes on paper but nowadays everything is digitized. Most of the people are using their smartphones to take notes they are also managing their schedules on the smartphone rather than using a manual calendar and the paper.

All these advances in technology directly affect the environment. One of the main benefits of the digital world is to save paper, which helps in saving trees and reducing deforestation. It also helps us in reducing the population.

Environmental Monitoring

The environmental scientist has started focusing on improving the ecological balance caused by human beings. Nowadays scientists are monitoring the environment using advanced information technology. For example, ecologists are monitoring the wildlife using the drones. Because In wild areas thieves frequently hunt endangered animals, that’s why ecologists have begun using drones to keep an eye on the area. The drones act as security cameras that can cover vast distances, making it more difficult for those hunting illegally to get away with breaking the law.

The government also uses technology to monitor whether companies are following environmental regulations. Geo-Spatial Measurement of Air Pollution systems draw in air around gas and oil facilities to test the amount of pollutants present. Plus, Environmental Simulation Testing helps ensure new products and technologies are up to standards before they hit the market and start to affect our planet.

Adopting Smarter Life Style

  1. Smart Homes

The home is one of the biggest energy users, but new technologies are helping to change that. The smart home is an automation system that monitors and controls all the appliances of home, lighting, entertainment system, etc remotely by using the smartphone or the tablet. It also includes the home security systems. Likewise, you can also take the example of a smart Air Conditioner. You can control the temperature of AC using your smartphone and tablet. These gadgets can be used in both the private home and in businesses, and they have the potential to reduce our energy usage significantly.

One lesson we’re just now learning from nature is that we need to use our technology sustainably. Tech can help us to use less, power our lives differently and be more aware of our effect on the environment. Tech can be part of the solution or part of the problem. We’re finding more and more ways to make sure it helps us rather than harming us, which is a trend we need to make sure sticks around.

2. Electric Cars

An electric car is an automobile that is driven by one or more electric motors. The electric cars are using rechargeable batteries. One of the great benefits of using an electric car is it is reducing the air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions.

Renewable Energy

The renewable energies are those energy sources that are derived directly and indirectly from natural resources like sun, wind, and ocean, etc. They are part of the planet’s physical structure, which means they are constantly being renewed by natural means. They simply cannot run out. Renewable Energies are also called the alternative energies because they’re considered to be an alternative to traditional fossil fuels such as oil and coal.

Just because an energy source is renewable doesn’t mean its 100 percent environmentally safe. For instance, dams harness the power of moving water, but they can also harm fish and wildlife. Wind turbines use the sun’s energy to generate clean electricity, but there are environmental impacts from the manufacturing process.

One of the most significant ways to contribute to saving the environment is to sustainably generate and use the available energy resources. Due to the non-renewability of fossil fuels like coal, petroleum, and natural gas, researchers are coming up with new ways to generate energy with technology. However, generating energy with technology involves three main aspects: storing, energy grids, and electricity generation. Energy storage includes developing low-cost storage solutions for energy in the form of modern batteries and improved fuel cells. Some examples of technology-efficient energy solutions are fuel cells, lithium-air batteries, hydrogen energy storage, and thermal energy collectors.
