The story of 1971 isn’t really about the war and the creation of Bangladesh. It’s about what happened next: A remarkable moment when the people of Pakistan came together to rebuild their country. Their love and passion for the country combined with practical ingenuity has reshaped not just Pakistan, but the entire world. What started 49 years ago continues to this day where Pakistan is remaking its bright future despite having paid a dear price for being thrust into unending wars started by others.
1971 Pakistan is created to support Pakistan’s digital startup community. Since it’s created, it has become the hub for the city’s thriving technology and entrepreneurial ecosystem. It is based in 1871 Chicago at the world class incubator. Today 1871 is the home of nearly 500 early-stage, high-growth digital startups. Located in the Merchandise Mart, this 140,000 square foot facility is also the headquarters of nationally recognized accelerators, industry-specific incubators, tech talent schools, the Illinois Science and Technology Coalition — the state’s leading technology advocate, a number of Chicago-based VCs, and satellite offices for Northwestern University, University of Illinois, University of Chicago, Loyola University Chicago, Illinois Institute of Technology, Trinity University, and DePaul University.
Pakistan’s brightest digital designers, engineers and entrepreneurs are shaping new technologies, disrupting old business models in Pakistan. Our focus is to help and reshape Pakistan’s future by using new technologies.
Come to a place where you can share ideas, make mistakes, work hard, build your business and, with a little luck, change the world.
Welcome to 1971.
